I’m in my 25th week of pregnancy now, and since I haven’t done a twin pregnancy update since week 22 I thought it was time to do another one. Last week I went up to Bronson Hospital and saw a Perinatologist, which is a maternal-fetal medical specialist dealing with high risk pregnancies like mine. I’m happy to say that all went well at my appointment, and we got to see a wonderful ultrasound of the twins which is always a treat!
Twin Pregnancy Update
How Far Along? 25 weeks and 1 day as of today. Measuring at 34 weeks if I was carrying a single infant. This is right on track for a twin pregnancy.
Maternity Clothes? I’ve been in maternity clothes for a while now. I’m most comfortable in sun dresses as they don’t put any pressure on my expanding belly. I’m already outgrowing many of the things I had used when pregnant with the boys, so I’m keeping an eye out for a few inexpensive things to wear during the summer months.
Weight Gain? I’ve gained 7 pounds as of last week Tuesday, but 3 pounds of that is the babies. As I mentioned in my last twin pregnancy update this isn’t unusual for my pregnancies. Now that I am nearing the end of my second trimester I should start gaining more weight as the babies get bigger as well.
Morning Sickness? It’s gone for the most part. Now and then I have a little trouble in the morning but mostly I’m doing great!
Food Aversions? My food aversions thankfully seem to be a thing of the past.
What I Miss? Sleeping all night long. It seems like I’m getting up every couple of hours to pee at night, and I can’t get out of bed by myself anymore which means I’m having to wake Heith to help me get up.
What I’m Looking Forward To: Seeing my children together. I can imagine all their little faces, and see them playing together. Although that also means I won’t be sleeping for quite a while once they arrive!
Milestones: I’m finally at the end of my second trimester, and the home stretch is just a few short months away. The twins are about 11 inches long this week, and baby girl weighs about 1 pound 12 ounces, while baby boy is 1 pound 8 ounces. They are on target for their gestational age, look healthy, and are moving quite a bit. I can’t ask for anything more than that.
Movement: The babies are moving a lot, making my belly jump with their little kicks. The boys think it’s funny to see, and sends them into giggles every time it happens. Baby girl (baby A) is a little harder to feel as she is more quiet than her brother, but she loves to sit right on my cervix and that at times can get very uncomfortable. I do feel her little kicks and swirls as she moves around, and that is always a comfort. Baby boy (baby B) I am convinced is going to be a soccer player. He moves so much more and keeps pushing against the top of my uterus looking for more room. The other day he was even trying to stick his little foot under my rib cage!
Worries: I’m not really worried about anything now. I’ve been told by my OBGYN that we are aiming to deliver at 35 weeks since I have a history of preterm labor and delivery. He followed that up by saying I may not make it that far. So I am being careful not to over do it, and to listen to my body. My other two pregnancies were also high risk, and so this isn’t new to me (other than the twin part) and having been through this before I know the things I need to do to take care of myself.
The Boys: KC is doing great. He still loves talking to the babies, telling them he loves them and can’t wait to see them this fall. He is busy making pictures for the babies room, and helping us pick out names for them.
AJ is starting to get the idea that there are babies in mommy’s tummy although I’m not sure he fully understand what that means. We count the babies all the time, and he loves poking at my belly. We are reading a lot of books about having new babies come home, and about being a big brother. He is loving the books, I just hope that he is being prepared enough. It’s times like these that his childhood language apraxia make things more difficult.
