Saving money today isn’t just about coupons. You have to pay attention to everything at the grocery store, the gas station and even at the drive through. It’s like playing in a reality game of Survivors, except you are not stuck on a remote island. No, you have been dropped into a sea of stores, that all want your hard earned money. Thankfully, you are the one that gets to decided how much they get. You are working for your own “Tribe”, as you survive and navigate the stores with your family’s budget.
How I Protected My Family Tribe’s Money This Week
Deal #1 – At The Pump
We had a huge price jump at the gas stations this week. Gas went from $1.91 up to $2.39 in just a matter of a couple of hours. That’s a 50 cents per gallon difference! Thankfully I had noticed that while all the other stations had increased their prices, my local Kroger station was still $1.91. By using my Kroger card I saved another 3 cents per gallon bringing the price down to $1.89. We filled up both our van and the truck at the cheaper price and still saved $16.85!
Deal #2 – In Store Coupon
Some stores, like our local Meijer, offer an in-store coupon when you fill a new or transfer an existing prescription to their pharmacy. Our new Meijer store mailed out a coupon book with four $25.00 coupons as an incentive to switch to their pharmacy. I was able to redeem all four coupons, a $100.00 value, by doing the following:
Transferred Prescription = $25.00
Sick KC – New Prescription = $25.00
New Prescription = $25.00
Sick AJ – New Prescription = $25.00
Both AJ and KC were on an antibiotic, for different reasons, this week. At my regular pharmacy each prescription had a $10.00 co-pay. I also had to refill my prenatal vitamin this week, which also has a $10.00 co-pay at my regular pharmacy.
Prenatal – Free
Antibiotic #1 – Free
Antibiotic #2- Free
By having them filled at the new Meijer store, which offers those specific drugs for free, I saved $30.00!
Deal #4 – Deep Savings On Diapers

1 Box Diapers – $18.99
1 Bag Diapers – $7.99

1 Pack Wet Wipes – $0.99
Total = $30.26

– $25.00 RX Coupon
Total Before Tax = $1.26
Tax = $0.8
Total After Tax = $1.34
Deal #5 – McDonald Coupons
We don’t do a lot a fast food, but sometimes you just have to break the rule and splurge a little.
Buy One Get One FREE – Happy Meal $4.23
Buy One Get One FREE – Sandwich $4.23
Total Savings = $8.46
By knowing my stores and their deals this week I saved my family $84.23! I also earned $110.00 in store coupons which I turned around and used to purchase additional items my family needs, including more diapers! Being an educated shopper and spending my families money wisely I kept $194.23 in our pocket.
