Today’s Moms are busier than ever. Cooking, cleaning, taking care of your family, working outside the home, working from home, keeping up with social media, updating your blog (if you’re a blogger you’ll know how much work this takes), or other hobbies. I could go on and on but you get the point. It can wear you down and leave you feeling like a puddle of mush at the end of the day. But did you know that taking just twenty minutes for yourself each day is one of the best ways you can manage your stress level?
I know, I know I just got done listing all the things in your life that suck up your time. Now I’m telling you to find a free twenty minutes for yourself? Don’t worry, I’m going to show you a few simple ways to find that twenty minutes. Keep reading!
4 Easy Ways To Find Twenty Minutes A Day For You
Begin your day a little earlier. Set your alarm twenty minutes earlier than you normally do. You don’t have to get up and start your day (unless you want to), instead take this twenty minutes just for you. You can spend the time collecting your thoughts, day dream, visualize the goals you have for the day, or imagine yourself accomplishing your dreams. Spending some time thinking positive statements about yourself, your family and your life will set you up to have a great day!
Take a mid-day break. If your lunch hour is spent running errands, taking care of other people’s wants or needs, or eating out with your co-workers taking a step back and giving yourself a break once or twice a week can be very refreshing. Try packing a lunch and finding a quiet spot to just be alone. Take a good book to read, or play a game on your phone. You could even go for a walk. Spend a few minutes thinking about your personal goals, dreams and in general what is important to you. Just take some time to relax and clear your mind in the middle of the day can give you a natural boost of energy.
Give Yourself a time-out. I know as a mom it’s hard to take time for yourself in the middle of a buys evening routine. I’m however suggesting you do just that. Each night give yourself 20 minutes away from the busyness of the family and do something just for you. Don’t choose a time so to bed that you will want to just go to sleep as that will defeat the purpose. Use this time to focus on yourself and something that makes you happy so that you can enjoy being with your family.
End Your Day On A Positive Note. If you are like me, and rising a little earlier in the morning isn’t for you then turn it into an end of the day routine. Give yourself a pep talk, reaffirm that you are a strong, positive and productive woman. Take some time to remember the good things that happened during your day, and enjoy the moment all over again. Then spend a little time going over what you plan to do tomorrow. See yourself handling any unforeseen events smoothly and confidently. Then off to bed for a good night’s rest.
Whichever one of these suggestions you choose for your twenty minutes a day routine making yourself a priority will not only help you but your family as well. A happy and refreshed mom makes for a happy family.
While I wrote this post with moms in mind, I know there are lots of dads who could use twenty minutes a day a well.
