I love Target. Unfortunately the closet one to me is an hour away, but whenever I make the trip up to Kalamazoo I try to stop in there and see if I can find any great deals. Getting those great deals does require having a basic understanding of their pricing system.
Understanding Target’s Pricing System
Finding deals at any store begins with understanding how they do business with their customers. This includes reading and understanding their coupon policy, their membership rewards club benefits, how they price and finally how they mark down and clearance their inventory. Combining all of these elements will help you get the best deal for your dollar at Target.
Target’s Price Tags: There is a lot of information on the Target price tag. For example if the price on the tag ends in the number nine then you know it is their normal, every day price for that specific item. However, if it ends in a number like 5, or 7 then it is on sale.
Clearance Stickers: I love clearance, shopping from the clearance rack always makes me feel like I’m getting a deal. However, you have to know how to read the tags so you can ensure your getting the best price possible. I really like the way that Target has their clearance tags set up because they have a lot of information on them as well.
The clearance tag will have a number on the upper right hand corner. The umber will typically be a 15, 30, 50 and can go all the way up to a 90. This number will tell you how much of a discount there is on the item. The price on clearance items are lowered about every two weeks, so if you don’t need that item right away check back on it to see if the price has been lowered yet again. As an added bonus you can combined your store and manufactured coupons with the clearance pricing to get an even better deal!
When looking at the clearance sticker you will also want to take special care to notice the last number. If it is an eight, you know that is not the final mark down. However, if the price ends in a four then that is the lowest price for that item.
