I typically skip Black Friday shopping, and often forget to check out the deals on Cyber Monday. However, I never skip shopping after Christmas. The after Christmas sales are, in my opinion, the best time to shop for gifts all year. Stores have ordered extra stock for the holiday season and now have to unload it to make room for spring items. That means big savings for you. If you have a plan and a little extra set aside in the December budget you can get a head start on the gifts you will need throughout the year.
Tips To Make The Most Of After Christmas Sales
Start With A Plan – Just like your before Christmas shopping you need to start with a plan. Know what it is you are looking for and who the gift is intended. Wandering aimlessly in the aisles at your favorite department store is a great way to get sucked into buying more than you budgeted for. Having a plan and a list will help keep you on track.
Shop The Department Store – Places like JC Penney, Khol’s, and Macy’s offer great discounts often 50-60% off the original price. To entice you to shop at their stores they will often offer additional coupons for the already reduced items. If you are wise with your choices you walk away with great items at a fraction of their original cost.
This past Saturday I took advantage of great sales my local Peeble’s department store was offering. They had several items marked clearance at 50% off and offered a 50% off coupon on those same clearance items. I was able to purchase a $60 Polo jacket for both my husband and my dad for $15.00! I also purchased a $30 throw blanket for my Grandmother which only cost $7.50 after discount and coupon. I purchase a $30 necklace for $7.50 and a $60.00 sweater for my mom but only paid $15.00 for it. Had I paid the original price it would have cost well over $200 for those same items. However, my total purchase price was only $60.00!
Replenish Holiday Items – Now that the holiday is officially over stores want to clear their shelves of the wrapping paper, gift boxes and decorations. This is a great time to replenish the things you have used, and to stock up on the things you will need for next Christmas. Just remember, not everything that is on sale is a great deal. Don’t purchase extra gift wrap or twinkly lights unless your going to use them next year.
Buy Toys Now – This is the time of year you will find the largest number of toys discounted. While Black Friday and Cyber Monday offer great sales, after christmas sales offer steeper discounts. If you keep an eye out, you can often find more expensive toys at a great price. Last year I picked up the Matchbox Wrecky The Wrecking Buddy a $60 toy for $12.00 AJ got it for Christmas this year. Another after Christmas sales item I picked up was the Hot Wheels Airbrush Auto Designer this was a $40.00 toy that I purchased for $9.00. The price was so great that I purchased two of them. My nephew BJ and my son KC each got one for their summer birthdays. These are just two examples of the many toys I’ve purchased at deep discounts after Christmas.
Stay On Budget – No after Christmas sales is worth blowing your budget, or putting items on your credit card needlessly. Bargains are only good deals if you can pay for the item. You do not want to get stuck with a holiday shopping spree hangover come January when your bills start rolling in.
Do you shop the after Christmas sales? If so, what are some of your favorite after Christmas bargains this year?
