To me Labor Day always signals the end of summer and with the boys starting school tomorrow reality will quickly set in. While my garden is still going strong (for now) this is the time of year when I start preparing my family for the colder months ahead. We finish our home canning, begin to pay closer attention to our stock pile and very soon will be putting our summer gear in the attic to await the next season. Saying Good-bye to summer doesn’t have to be sad. While we love all the things that summer has to offer, we can still look forward to what fall has in store for us.
Five Awesome Ways To Say Goodbye To Summer
Host A BBQ. Before the summer weather turns cold hold one last summertime BBQ party. Invite your family, friends, and even your neighbors to the festivities. Send summer out with a bang this year!
Head For The Water. All summer long my family loves spending time at the lake and in the pool. Before the cold night air makes the water too cold, grab your suits and towels and head for the nearest swimming hole! Enjoy the feeling of the warm summer sun and the sand between your toes one last time.
Go For A Picnic. Nothing says summer like a picnic! Pack a lunch, grab a blanket and the kids then head out to your favorite spot for some family fun. Spend the afternoon playing at the park or going on a walk along your favorite nature trail.
Make Homemade Ice Cream. I don’t know about you but I think homemade ice cream is the best! So grab a bag of ice, your favorite flavorings and that ice cream maker you have stashed in the corner of the garage! Make up new flavors or follow a tried and true recipe.
Spend Some Time In The Back Yard. With the changing of the season means it’s time to put away the summer gardens. Spend a little time in your backyard preparing your flower beds and vegetable gardens for the long slumber of winter. While you’re working imagine how beautiful everything will look again come spring.
