Auto Experts: Beware Of Flood-damaged Autos

Looking for a new car involves considering different areas, factors, and features of an automobile. Safety, fuel efficiency, and performance are just some of the things car buyers need to consider to ensure that they will be driving a vehicle that suits them perfectly.

Auto experts though has reported that prospective car buyers should also check for water damage on the car they are planning to buy and they do mean flood water to be exact. After the damaging effects of Hurricane Katrina, car experts fear that the auto market in the United States is proliferated by flood-damaged vehicles. With regards to this, they warn car buyers to avoid buying a car which has suffered the wrath of Hurricane Katrina and other smaller floods across the country.

Bryan Gregory, the Director of Consumer Education for Advanced Auto Parts, has this to say about the influx of flood-damaged vehicles in the United States auto market: ?Auto industry experts estimate that as many as 400,000 vehicles may have been damaged by Hurricane Katrina alone. Add to that total the number of vehicles caught in countless smaller floods that occur across the country each year and you have a significant flood-damaged vehicle population that consumers need to be on the lookout for.?

Staying way from flood-damaged vehicles needs a thorough inspection of the vehicle on the part of the buyer. Although the tell tale signs of flood damaged is relatively hard to spot, auto experts want to arm car buyers with the proper information to spot these damages. ?Flood damage can be hard to spot, unless you know what you’re looking for. The time to spot a car that’s been in a flood is before you purchase it, because once it’s in your driveway and the flood-related mechanical problems start to show up, it’s too late for most consumers,? says Gregory.

These damages may not show themselves yet right after you buy a car but in the long run, these damages will play a major role in the shortening of a vehicle’s lifespan. Since all new vehicles released in the U.S. market are equipped with electronic components, these features should be checked properly before buying a car. The vehicle’s onboard computer can be permanently damaged by flood water as well as airbag sensors. That alone poses a very high potential risk to consumers.

If an airbag sensor is damaged, when needed, the airbag can no longer protect the occupants of a vehicle, endangering them of severe injuries or even death. Some other electrical components like Volvo window motors can also be damaged by flood water, but these damages can readily be checked unlike the status of an airbag sensor.

One of the most telling signs that a car is flood-damaged is molds in the vehicle or a musty smell. This, of course, is the effect of the prolonged exposure to dirty flood water. New upholstery and carpets can also mean that these are replaced due to the damage of flood water on the original upholstery or carpets. Rust on the interior of a vehicle is also a sign that the vehicle is flood-damaged.

Auto experts also advise car buyers to inspect the air box for mud or water residue. Consumers can do this by simply removing the air filter of a vehicle. Waterlines on the bulb or lenses of headlamps and taillights are also telltale sign that the car was submerged at one time or another under a flood.

Aside from keeping away from flood-damaged vehicles, Gregory also advises car owners to prevent their cars from being victims of a flood. According to Gregory, ?In addition to knowing how to avoid buying a flood-damaged vehicle, drivers should also take steps to prevent their own vehicle from becoming a flood victim. The number one action drivers can take to avoid water damage to their vehicle, and possible personal injury or death, is to never, ever attempt to drive through water that is covering a road, no matter how shallow or slow-moving it appears. Also avoid parking in areas prone to flash flooding and close your vehicle’s windows when rain threatens.?

A Look At The Acura Rsx

A Look At The Acura Rsx

Back in 1986, when the Acura brand was introduced by the Honda Motor Company, two models started it all: the Legend and the Integra. Since that time several additional models have joined the Acura line up and the two original models were renamed: the Legend became the RL and the Integra was renamed the RSX. Today’s RSX – a three door hatchback — continues to offer pretty much what the original Integra stood for: luxury, engineering, and value. Let’s take a closer look at this popular seller and what the car means to both the driver and to the company.

Honda’s introduction of Acura was prior to and done slightly different than Toyota’s introduction of Lexus and Nissan’s roll out of Infiniti. Unlike its Japanese cousins who were introducing pure luxury brands, Honda decided to include “near luxury” as well as luxury cars in the Acura mix. This marketing method was Kind of like selling Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles under one name, but without the creation of a third brand. Honda’s strategy has paid off as the Integra/RSX has been a popular seller and a nice bridge for Honda loyalists looking for something a bit more refined than the typical Honda, but without the Acura price. Truly, a star was born with the Integra and continues to shine with the RSX.

For driver’s, the RSX offers a gusto not found on the average Honda, giving it plenty of room to be “specially tuned” by the aftermarket crowd. With 17 inch tires, 6 speed transmission, and 7 speaker Bose sound system, the RSX has been designed to provide optimal driving fun at an affordable price. Featuring 2+2 seating, sport styling, and a 201horspower VTEC engine, the four banger RSX effectively combines performance with fuel efficiency.

For the Honda Motor Company, the RSX has helped to keep Acura sales strong. Recently, the company began to market the Acura brand well beyond its North American roots and the RSX [curiously still called the Integra elsewhere] has led the way. Recently, however, the company has decided to discontinue the RSX to concentrate on further separating the Honda and Acura divisions. Thus, the original intent of Honda for Acura has been changed and Acura will now be exclusively marketed as a luxury brand.

For Integra/RSX lovers all is not lost. Honda will likely sell a similarly equipped Accord while Acura will continue to sell the TSX, a four door upscale version of the RSX. Changing consumer tastes have shown that a near luxury coupe doesn’t have quite as strong as an appeal as a four door sedan, so the RSX will not be produced after 2006.

The Integra/RSX has served Acura and its drivers well; new models are certain to build upon its success as the Acura brand is spread worldwide.

Volkswagen Antenna Mast ? Getting A Clear Signal

Volkswagen Antenna Mast ? Getting A Clear Signal

Getting stuck in a traffic jam can really ruin one’s day. It’s a good thing motorists can easily just crank up the audio system and relax a bit while enjoying a soothing track from Enya or pumping it up with one of Kanye West’s remixes. A mobile sound system is an important component of every automobile, since it is the only form of entertainment a driver has while on the road. However, a busted CD player may just be as debilitating as a bottleneck road jam. Fortunately, Volkswagen equips it vehicles with reliable Volkswagen Antenna Masts to at least a good FM reception.

It is easy to say that with technology-driven sound system designs, the regular AM/FM tuning is already archaic. This is not always the case. Motorists actually need regular feeds from AM/FM stations to get traffic updates, latest news and current hits, or tune in to some pop music, while the MP3 is not working. A Volkswagen antenna mast aids the antenna to function more effectively. How? a typical Volkswagen antenna mast gives the necessary signal to ensure clear frequency signal resulting to crisp FM music or audible AM news feeds.. Antenna is designed to transmit or receive radio waves. They do not just work on air or outer space, but they can also operate under water or even through soil and rock at certain frequencies for short distances. Heinrich Hertz used antennas to prove the existence of electromagnetic waves.

There is no question that an antenna works hand-in-hand with the typical audio head unit of a car. Traffic can be debilitating, but with a reliable antenna mast, deviation is made through clear, relaxing radio music. It is therefore, important, that the antenna and its mast are working well to ensure readily available entertainment especially during trying road conditions.

Tip 4 ? When you do find the personalised registration plate you want you need to check the company’s legitimacy that is selling it. So look for those which are members of certain agencies such as a Member of The Institute of Registration Agents & Dealers (MIRAD) or the Cherished Number Dealers Association (CNDA) or the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) or the Registration Numbers Club (RNC).

Tip 5 ? You should look carefully at how long the company who are selling the personalised registration plates have been trading for. Certainly those that have been trading in this business for several years are likely to be more trustworthy.

Tip 6 ? Finally before you actually part with any of your money make sure that the plate’s certification is genuine. So before you make your purchase check with the DVLA to confirm whether there is a retention certificate for the registration plate or not. Certainly any reputable personalised registration plate dealer will be more than happy to provide prove by faxing or sending a scanned version of the document to you to confirm that the plate is a legitimate one.

We hope that the above information is useful and will be helpful when it comes to how to choose the right personalised registration plate for you vehicle.

Ford Bronco Ii: Shining Through Despite Criticisms

Ford Bronco Ii: Shining Through Despite Criticisms

Sold between the years 1984 to 1990, the Ford Bronco II was built and manufactured to be a compact sport utility vehicle. It was actually built to be a compact complement of the full sized Ford Bronco. It was also targeted so as to be the direct competitor to the Chevrolet S 10 Blazer and the Jeep Cherokee.

This vehicle held a 94 inch wheelbase that was very similar to the Volkswagen Beetle. The mechanical parts were very much similar to the Ford Ranger pickup’s mechanical components. The first models came out equipped with a 2.8 liter V6 engine which was very much similar to the 2.8 liter engine that was used in the Ford vehicles marketed and sold in Europe. Come the year 1986, the Ford Bronco II came introduced with a 2.9 liter EFI V6. It has been said that this engine was doomed from the beginning with design flaws. This engine often suffered from premature cylinder head failure and loss of valve train lubrication as well. This happened when the valve train lubrication was not rigorously maintained. However, Ford was able to see this flaw immediately and it acted upon changing or correcting this flaw in the soonest time possible. Come 1989, this mistake was already corrected. However, the Ford Bronco II had already accumulated unattractive comments and a not so good reputation to potential buyers. These buyers were concerned about the safety of this vehicle.

This vehicle has also been reputed to tip over during some situations because of the high center of gravity. Later on in 1991, the Ford Bronco II platform underwent a major redesign and was released to be wider and longer. However, despite the bad kind of reputation that this vehicle received, the Ford Bronco II still continued to be actively sought by customers and patrons who are looking for a cheap, solid and compact sports utility vehicle. Of course, these buyers would have to do some work on it but the replacement parts and engine could be found easily for the Ford Bronco II could have an engine swap with the Ford Ranger.
