Will Hybrid Cars Dominate The Uk Car Market In 2010?

Will Hybrid Cars Dominate The Uk Car Market In 2010?

Year 2009 has seen a drastic recession of all times, and consumers all over the world have changed their spending habits. It has become a matter of concern for each and everyone to spend wisely. People are now well-aware of the need to buy only those products that are pocket-friendly as well as environment-friendly. Environmental issues and climate changes around the globe have raised alarm regarding the future of Earth.

We should strive for the implementation and success of Green Revolution by opting for hybrid cars. The consumer market in the UK is ways ahead in realizing the importance of investing in hybrid cars. This is evident from the fact that most of the motor shows display hybrid cars, to give the consumers a choice to make a change to this world.

According to BBC, Toyota has announced that it shall manufacture a hybrid model of its Auris hatchback in the UK, from the year 2010. This would be the first time that Toyota would be manufacturing a car outside Japan or USA.

This shall greatly reduce the price of hybrid cars in the UK as compared to the imported hybrid cars. This will also prove to be an incentive for other emerging hybrid car manufacturers to set up their plants in the UK. Consequently, consumers will be able to deal in competitive prices, and the hybrid car industry shall flourish. Hence, there is no reason why hybrid cars cannot dominate the UK car market next year.

Hybrid cars may be costly when buying, but the low maintenance cost and high fuel economy are the value-added factors that make it compelling for the car buyers. Currently, the US market tops the hybrid car sales, followed by Japan and Europe.

The hybrid car market of the UK is bound to increase in the year 2010, due to various other factors as well. Though the fuel prices are now in control as compared to the surging oil prices in the year 2007-2008, but it is still not possible for the consumers to keep up with the road taxes, especially in the UK. People who own green cars have to pay less tax than those running conventional cars. Moreover, efforts are being made on the national scale to decrease the depreciation of hybrid car value. This will make resale value equally beneficial for the buying and the selling parties.

The hybrid car technology is being constantly evolved and improved. It is being structured and designed to suit the extreme weather temperature of the UK. Toyota as well as Honda models are striving to introduce special features in hybrid cars to attract the consumers.

Owing to the bad financial picture worldwide, consumers are wary of investing in new cars. But, with proper advertisement and government support, hybrid cars can make a breakthrough in the UK car market, in the year 2010. Even if it does not dominate it, it is bound to increase sizably.

Auto Experts: Beware Of Flood-damaged Autos

Auto Experts: Beware Of Flood-damaged Autos

Looking for a new car involves considering different areas, factors, and features of an automobile. Safety, fuel efficiency, and performance are just some of the things car buyers need to consider to ensure that they will be driving a vehicle that suits them perfectly.

Auto experts though has reported that prospective car buyers should also check for water damage on the car they are planning to buy and they do mean flood water to be exact. After the damaging effects of Hurricane Katrina, car experts fear that the auto market in the United States is proliferated by flood-damaged vehicles. With regards to this, they warn car buyers to avoid buying a car which has suffered the wrath of Hurricane Katrina and other smaller floods across the country.

Bryan Gregory, the Director of Consumer Education for Advanced Auto Parts, has this to say about the influx of flood-damaged vehicles in the United States auto market: ?Auto industry experts estimate that as many as 400,000 vehicles may have been damaged by Hurricane Katrina alone. Add to that total the number of vehicles caught in countless smaller floods that occur across the country each year and you have a significant flood-damaged vehicle population that consumers need to be on the lookout for.?

Staying way from flood-damaged vehicles needs a thorough inspection of the vehicle on the part of the buyer. Although the tell tale signs of flood damaged is relatively hard to spot, auto experts want to arm car buyers with the proper information to spot these damages. ?Flood damage can be hard to spot, unless you know what you’re looking for. The time to spot a car that’s been in a flood is before you purchase it, because once it’s in your driveway and the flood-related mechanical problems start to show up, it’s too late for most consumers,? says Gregory.

These damages may not show themselves yet right after you buy a car but in the long run, these damages will play a major role in the shortening of a vehicle’s lifespan. Since all new vehicles released in the U.S. market are equipped with electronic components, these features should be checked properly before buying a car. The vehicle’s onboard computer can be permanently damaged by flood water as well as airbag sensors. That alone poses a very high potential risk to consumers.

If an airbag sensor is damaged, when needed, the airbag can no longer protect the occupants of a vehicle, endangering them of severe injuries or even death. Some other electrical components like Volvo window motors can also be damaged by flood water, but these damages can readily be checked unlike the status of an airbag sensor.

One of the most telling signs that a car is flood-damaged is molds in the vehicle or a musty smell. This, of course, is the effect of the prolonged exposure to dirty flood water. New upholstery and carpets can also mean that these are replaced due to the damage of flood water on the original upholstery or carpets. Rust on the interior of a vehicle is also a sign that the vehicle is flood-damaged.

Auto experts also advise car buyers to inspect the air box for mud or water residue. Consumers can do this by simply removing the air filter of a vehicle. Waterlines on the bulb or lenses of headlamps and taillights are also telltale sign that the car was submerged at one time or another under a flood.

Aside from keeping away from flood-damaged vehicles, Gregory also advises car owners to prevent their cars from being victims of a flood. According to Gregory, ?In addition to knowing how to avoid buying a flood-damaged vehicle, drivers should also take steps to prevent their own vehicle from becoming a flood victim. The number one action drivers can take to avoid water damage to their vehicle, and possible personal injury or death, is to never, ever attempt to drive through water that is covering a road, no matter how shallow or slow-moving it appears. Also avoid parking in areas prone to flash flooding and close your vehicle’s windows when rain threatens.?

Gender Equality and the Car Insurance Industry

Gender Equality and the Car Insurance Industry

Comparisons regarding accident statistics can be made throughout different categories of driver. Younger drivers are statistically more at risk of having an accident than older drivers above the age of 35 so pay a higher insurance premium. They may possess car control skills but lack awareness and planning skills resulting in more accidents. Drivers in the younger age group now find the cost of car insurance prohibitive as the premium can often cost more than the car they intend to drive. If the younger driver is female the price of the premium can be so high as to make learning to drive too costly. This can seriously effect their place in the jobs market and is having a negative effect on driving school businesses. Younger drivers are taking lessons with friends and family members to offset the cost of driving lessons and so are being trained to a much lower standard than if they were taught by qualified instructors.

Older drivers are much less likely to be involved in an accident so premiums are less and this is backed up in real terms by the no claims bonus discounts. After the age of 40 the cost of insurance premiums becomes more even, indicating that the accident statistics also level out. So why aren’t they more level for the younger age group?

From a driver training perspective there is little to distinguish between male and female pupils. Both gender groups seem to have the same ability to pass the test. A big factor is the difference in the nature of accidents. Collisions involving male drivers tend to caused by aggressive driving and excessive speed. When an accident occurs due to these factors there is greater damage to vehicles leading to higher repair claims and a greater percentage of vehicles being written off entirely. Serious physical injury is also a greater possibility in this type of accident so medical bills will be higher. Accidents involving female drivers tend to be a result of poor spatial awareness so tend to be low speed collisions in restricted spaces. Reversing into street furniture is common so although a claim will be made it would only be for minor damages with little or no physical injury. This would require a much lower payout settlement than an accident with a male driver.

As predicted the insurance premiums for female drivers will be equalized to the same level as male drivers and not vice versa. Insurance companies that cater exclusively to women drivers should maintain their market share despite higher premiums as their advertising campaigns are designed to appeal to female drivers. They also offer unique selling points within their policies such as handbag contents insurance which would appeal exclusively to the female driver. The change in legislation could be considered unfair and has had it’s opponents but now it has been passed it looks like a more expensive time for women in the car insurance market.
